Five Ways Blogging May Change Your Life

How Blogging May Change Your Life

When I started blogging just over four years ago, I had no idea of the journey I was about to take. Blogging has changed my life – I’m now a published author, something I’m not sure I would have had the courage or the knowledge to become without the support of the online community – and that’s just the beginning. I’ve met people I’m sure will be friends for life, gained confidence in myself and my writing skills, and created something of which I’m proud.

If you’re thinking of starting a blog, or are just taking your first steps in blogland, welcome! Here are five ways that blogging might just be one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do:

You could improve your writing skills:  If you want to be a writer, you need to practice. A blog is a great way to write regularly without putting yourself under pressure with a large project like a novel. There are writing prompts, themed days and competitions all over blogland, or you can even start your own. The important thing is that you’re writing, which will help you to find and hone your voice.

You might learn something new: There are lots of bloggers out there writing about just about everything under the sun. Taking a wander through blogland might lead to craft ideas, home décor inspiration, travel tips or even introduce you to a cool local eatery you might never have heard of otherwise. Similarly, you may find that your audience is inspired by what you create!

You could discover a new business opportunity: When you start blogging, you start small. But, once you’ve built an audience, opportunity awaits. You could be invited to review local businesses and products, get travel opportunities, or that book you were thinking about writing might find its audience. For example, Andy Weir, author of the Martian, started writing his book on his blog, with followers chiming in to give feedback and scientific info. Now it’s an Oscar nominated film starring Matt Damon.

You might make some new friends: The social aspect was a side of blogging I didn’t expect, yet some of my best friends in the world are people I’ve met through blogging, first online and then in the real world. There’s a hugely supportive community out there, and events such as the Annual Bloggers Bash are a great way to finally put a face to the posts you love.

It could help you through a tough time: Some bloggers use their blog to journal something significant in their lives. Whether it’s loss, illness, a break-up or mental health issues, putting your story out there might help you make sense of it and introduce you to others who might be going through the same thing.

So there you have it – five ways that blogging might just change your life. So what are you waiting for? Get blogging!

And if you’d love to meet a friendly group of bloggers face-to-face, come to the fifth Annual Bloggers Bash in London on June 15th 2019! Click here for more information.
